I have learned the hard way, that the way we traditionally educate children is backwards compared to the Lord’s way. Reading and studying the Creation and Adam & Eve through the Standard Works reveals quite a different view of education. The home was the center of ALL learning. Kathleen Bahr really explains this better than I do, followed by others on this same theme of Family Work:
Kathleen S Bahr BYU Associate Professor of Home & Family Life
– “Family Work” BYU Magazine 2000
– “Laborer In Zion” From 2003 LDS-OHEA Conference
– “Work in the Home-Building Relationships” Speech from World Family Policy Forum, Brigham Young University, January 14, 1999
Kristine Manwaring (a co-worker with Kathleen Bahr)
– My Home as a Temple
Shirley R Klein BYU Associate Professor of Family Life
– “Protect Our Homes, Renew our Powers” by Shirley R Klein
BYU devotional address, 5 April 2005

Sister Julie B Beck Relief Society General President
“Mothers Who Know” http://tinyurl.com/32rxl8
October 2007 General Conference
President Monson April 2008 General Conference
“Daughters of God”

Elder Douglas L Callister of the Second Quorum of the Seventy
BYU Devotional Address given Sept 19, 2006
“Our Refined Heavenly Home”
Here’s another GEM. Dr Arnoldsen was the FIRST to teach (and BYU the first University to offer) a course in Home Schooling at the University Level! He’s very insightful — this is just the beginning of his writings, we are compiling his material into a book to be published in 2010:
Dr Larry Arnoldsen retired BYU Professor of Education
– Early Christians and Schooling
– A Heavenly Model
Additional Resources:
BYU Foundation Documents
This was formerly published in a book called “Educating Zion”
some of the links may be a repeat of what I had come across
on my own, each of the articles on the following link are well
worth study for every parent!
