Now that we are living abroad, we’ve had to change the way we do things. We were unable to bring along all of our books and so are relying on a few books, Kindle eBooks, Audible and courses on C.D.
Our schedule is still similar to what we did at home, but our use of computers and electronics has increase. Before we left we added another MacBook Pro, an iPad and three Kindles to our collection of electronics.
A Day
- Devotional ~~ Our daily devotional has continued to follow the same pattern that we started this summer. Over the summer each week had a theme, and right now we are concentrating on reviewing the last semi-annual conference.
- Math Xuxu and Star~~We are using a program called Teaching Textbooks for the older children. The entire program is contained on 4 C.D.’s. up until Pre-Algebra. We scanned the book portion in to our computer and the girls will copy the problems down on to paper to do the work. We are no sharing this copy, and have the original in our storage unit for copyright purposes.
- Math Mouse and Pie ~~ For now we are using Mathletics and Family Math for Young Children: Comparing.
- Science ~~ Apologia Science. The younger girls are studying out of the same elementary science book and it was one of the few that came along with us. Xuxu’s science comes all on one C.D. so she does all of her studying on the computer.
- Physical Education ~~We purchased and brought along several exercise videos. The older girls are using these daily. Right now, while the pollution isn’t bad, we are walking up and down the 11 flights of stairs in our building. When the pollution increases, we’ll need to stay where our air purifier is, esp. when exercising, so we’ll all be doing the videos.
- Practice Instruments ~~ Xuxu is continuing to practice her viola on her regular schedule. The other girls are taking piano lessons from Xuxu. We brought the viola, the viola and piano music, but purchased a keyboard when we arrived.
- Chinese ~~ We continue to use Better Chinese and Rosetta Stone. We have added Chinese Pod with a tutor twice a week for Xuxu.
- Writing & Spelling ~~ All of our writing programs are from Excellence in Writing. Most of it comes via C.D.
- History ~~ This year for the littles we are using The Story of the World: History for the Classical Child: Ancient Times: From the Earliest Nomads to the Last Roman Emperor which we downloaded on our Kindle. We also downloaded a lapbook from The Chronicle of the Earth website. We are starting our history time lines over again.

We also copied several audio CDs that we have purchased here and brought along several of their DVDs.
- Geography ~~ This year for geography we are trying something new. It is a program that came completely on C.D. called Mapping the World with Art. We will miss using Geography Coloring Book, but it was too much to bring along 4 copies.
