Not Back To School Days!

Our family has just returned from Not Back To School Days and Disney Land and California Adventure!  We are pooped and very very happy!

We arrived on Saturday afternoon (9/4) and quickly headed out to see Walking with Dinosaurs at the Honda Center in Anaheim!  That is one amazing show!  The little girls were worried about being afraid of the dinosaurs, but as soon as the show started they were nothing but mesmerized!   I continue to be astonished at the actual size of dinosaurs!  The only issue I had was at the end when they started discussing the evolution of flowers.  They intimated that the flowers were “smart enough” to figure out that insects could do the pollination for them.   We got a good laugh out of that one!

On Sunday we went to Sacrament meeting in the “Mickey Mouse Ward” as they have nicknamed themselves, (it is the closest church building to Disney Land) and then headed out to have lunch with Uncle P and Aunt E.  We decided that since we were in the neighborhood we would visit Nainai &Yeye’s favorite restaurant, Arturos!  We ate and ate and ate the best Mexican food on the planet!  I esp. loved the chile relleno!  I need to find a recipe for that one because even now, as I type, my mouth is watering!  Da said that everything tastes the same as it did when he was a kid, and even more astonishing, the decor is exactly the same!  Nothing has changed!  It is still as clean as a whistle and reasonably priced!  Check it out if you get a chance!  After lunch we tried to hit the tide pools at Cabrillo Beach, but the Labor Day crowds were too large, and so we decided to visit Da’s old neighborhood.  We saw two of the houses that his father built, two of his elementary schools and his route to school each day!  (Back in the day when you could send a 5 year old out the door to walk 5-6 blocks to school!…past a liquor store, etc.)

Sadly, this is the only photo I got of their cute travel dresses!  We’ve since added cropped dancing tights to make them a little more modest.

On Monday we hit Disney Land and were pleasantly surprised with the crowds!  It remained the same all week, getting a little more crowded by the end of the week, but still manageable!   The weather was perfect, not too hot and not too chilly.  On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday the big girls (Xuxu, Star and our friend Tallest)  attended Disney YES classes in the mornings before we headed out to the parks again.  I have to say that the organization of Not Back to School Days was incredible!  Everything was planned out to the tiniest detail, the meals were incredible and the ticket prices even better!  The girls loved their classes and it really added to the Disney experience!

(Tallest is our sweet friend from Cedar City who we love so much!  This trip was really extra wonderful because of her inclusion in it!  She made us all laugh and laugh and laugh some more the entire time!  I’m sure she’ll appreciate the nick name I’ve chosen for her! I do consider her my daughter, and she is the tallest…)

Da and I took turns taking the little girls around, and I am pretty sure we managed to catch nearly every single character at the park!  (See photos!)  The big girls managed to get every “thrilling” ride several times, sometimes several times every day!  Our days were packed to the gills and we were walking zombies every night!  We drove home on Sunday in an absolute stupor.  I think it will be the end of this week before we stop feeling tired!  But, it was worth every minute!

(All photos taken with an iPhone, so please excuse the quality!  I missed my camera terribly, but was also grateful that I didn’t have to lug it around!)
