Sichuan…

YES, I took THAT photo!  (Above!)

This morning we were up early and headed out to the Chengdu Panda Breeding Research Base. We wanted to see the baby pandas being fed.  Unfortunately it took the concierge much longer than we expected to arrange a car to take us.  We missed the feeding, but were still able to see some adorable babies!

When we arrived we noticed that we were visiting on the same day as several school groups. There were literally 1000’s of children in the park, along with their teachers and chaperons. When you have that many kids and a couple of white folks you hear A LOT of “hello!” coming from every direction!  At several points the teachers actually asked the kids to sing songs for us in English and we gave out high fives (which we had to instruct the kids on) and thumbs up!  They loved it and it was definitely a highlight of the day for us!

We saw lots and lots of pandas!  They were absolutely adorable!! On our way out we stopped at the lake to feed the voracious fish and saw some beautiful swans!  The kids loved feeding the fish and seeing them literally climb on top of each other to get the food.  Da and I had seen this before and told them about it, but it was the first time they had witnessed it themselves!

After the Research Base we called our driver and had him drop us off at a Sichuan Hot Pot restaurant that we learned about online!  Heaven help me, I’m going to be craving that one for a long time!!  It was incredibly good and I am determined to find a good hot pot cook book when I get home!  It would be a super dinner activity with friends!

After such a wonderful late lunch we came back to the hotel and crashed for a couple of hours!  I think that all the travel is catching up with us and naps are becoming a necessary part of every single day!

This evening we attended our favorite show to date!  If anyone reading is planning a trip, I would recommend you skip the water show and the performance in Guilin and save your money for front row tickets here in Chengdu!  It is worth every single penny!  Xuxu and Star thrilled because the mask changer came right down into the audience and changed his mask right in front of their seats!  The King of Masks is one of their favorite movies and to see it up close was amazing!

We are headed to Beijing tomorrow, so I am off to bed!
