The wood cut on the back of the 20 Yuan note is just across the Li River from our new location!
We have now been in Xi’an for 5 weeks. Unfortunately, in those five weeks we have learned that many of the things we wished to do while in Xi’an are not going to come to fruition.
We feel like we have accomplished much at Starfish Foster Home, despite our never ending illnesses that kept us away from the babies a good deal of the time. We brought a double stroller (that Amanda has been trying to get to Xi’an for 2 years) and 5 (40 lb.) boxes of donations, did the “New Year” photo shoot, burned CDs, made crib sheets, stuffed pillows, organized and inventoried the medicine cabinet, and built shelves. In between illnesses we held and rocked babies as much as we could! This was a special time, but we found that our other plans (music, language, art lessons, etc.) were not being (or going to be) accomplished. It became a matter of prayer and suddenly an idea was presented to us.
A friend sent us an email about a tour group that offers extended stays in Guilin that included all of the things we were looking for. That information sent us on a quest and eventually led us to another group that does something similar in a smaller town just outside of Guilin.
Later today we will be boarding an airplane and heading to Yangshuo. We will be spending the next four weeks hiking, kayaking, taking language, art & dance lessons, and learning how to cook Chinese food.
So, stay tuned for more adventures!
